An
eating disorder is an illness, much like depression
and alcoholism. In the most basic terms, an eating
disorder causes a person to adopt harmful or self-destructive
eating habits. This could mean: eating too much;
binging; starving yourself; anorexia; bulemia; compulsivity
and other disorders. Often times, these damaging
habits are coupled with other psychiatric disorders
that may exist such as depression and other anxiety
disorders.
The
poor nutrition that is tied to an eating disorder
can eventually damage just about every organ in
the body, and can unfortunately also lead to death.
The two most common types of eating disorder are
anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. When eating
is a disorder, it becomes the object of dependency
(interest), and disturbs the balance of daily life.
